Lived experience uses people’s personal experiences of life (both good and bad) and helps people to advocate ideas to help change and shape services to better suit the need.

There are many other names, including Experts by Experience (EbEs) or Lived Experience Influencers/consultant.

It is important to note that recovery is an ongoing journey. Lived experience can be from anyone, including carers, friends and family or the person themselves.

Why is Lived Experience Important?

Lived Experience is valuable as it gives ‘boots on the ground’ personal experience.

Our Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG) members experiences vary from living with emotional difficulties, deteriorating mental health and a range of experiences from mental health support providers. We use this lived experience to help develop and improve treatment and  services through feedback.
