Walking With Wheels: Help Shape a New Accessible Outdoor Peer Support Group

We’re looking for people with lived experience  to help us develop and deliver this new peer-led group in Mid Sussex.

There are opportunities to get involved in planning the group, shaping activities and routes, and/or helping to facilitate sessions when the group begins.

You don’t need previous experience of group facilitation or volunteering. What matters most is your lived experience, your ideas and your interest in creating a welcoming, accessible space for people to connect outdoors.

Interested in getting involved?

CAPITAL is inviting people with lived experience of mental health challenges to help develop a new peer-led group that brings together connection, gentle movement and mutual support in some of Mid Sussex’s beautiful outdoor spaces.

Walking With Wheels has been created with accessibility and inclusion at its heart. The group welcomes people with and without mobility challenges, recognising that everyone’s experience of movement is different and that everyone deserves opportunities to enjoy nature in a supportive environment.

Rather than focusing on fitness or distance, Walking With Wheels is about creating a space where people can connect, build confidence and enjoy spending time outdoors together at a pace that works for everyone.

Designed with lived experience

This is an opportunity to help shape the group from the beginning. We’re looking for people who want to be part of creating a welcoming community where lived experience, mutual understanding and peer support are valued.

The group aims to:

  • Welcome people with and without mobility challenges.
  • Support access through transport where needed.
  • Build relationships between people who may not usually meet.
  • Normalise mobility needs and create inclusive outdoor experiences.
  • Promote wellbeing through connection with nature and each other.

Starting late 2026

Walking With Wheels is expected to begin later in 2026, with visits to accessible outdoor spaces across Mid Sussex.

If this sounds like something you’d like to be involved in, or you’d simply like to find out more, we’d love to hear from you.

For more information, contact Sara Shepherd at [email protected] or scan the QR code on the poster above.

Together, we can create a welcoming space where everyone feels able to connect, belong and enjoy the benefits of spending time outdoors.
