Why is the SCALE Network Necessary?

The network has been commissioned by the Community Transformation Programme, which is part of significant changes to NHS Sussex services, and you can find more information about that here.

Key Aspects of NHS Changes Are:

  • Putting the voice of the public in key points of decision making, through lived experience networks, public events and focus groups, and many other opportunities to engage.

  • Enabling more collaboration – shared working – between different organisations.

  • Reducing inequalities in services in different areas, and for different communities: sometimes called health inequalities, or barriers to access.

Many organisations in Sussex have already set up groups of people with lived experience to shape and influence their services. The Coproduction Lead role was asked to find a way to join up those lived experience groups, and their organisations. Although the organisations and their lived experience have shared goals – the improvement of mental health support services – there was a need to put something in place to:

  • Improve information sharing between organisations and those groups

  • Improve connections for collaboration

  • Ensure people from communities that experience poorer health outcomes are engaged so this can be addressed

Although the project has a fixed term of 1 year, from April 2022, an expected outcome is the creation of an ongoing coordinated network to continue the work beyond May 2023.
