What does 30 years of lived experience-led work look like?
CAPITAL has been supporting people with lived and living experience of mental health difficulties in West Sussex since the 1990s. Over the years, our work has evolved, but the values at the heart of the organisation have remained remarkably consistent: peer support, connection, inclusion and creating opportunities for people with lived experience to shape change.
In a new article for NSUN, Alison Faulkner reflects on CAPITAL’s history, speaking to people who have been part of the organisation about what CAPITAL has meant to them, what they value about our work and their hopes for its future.
From our early work building the confidence of local people to have their voices heard, through to our work in inpatient settings and our growing focus on co-production and lived experience roles, the article explores how CAPITAL has continued to develop while staying true to its roots.
This article forms part of a broader piece of work Alison has been undertaking to explore and document CAPITAL’s history. As part of this, Alison has been speaking with trustees, previous staff, members, volunteers and others who have helped shape CAPITAL over the years.
We are really excited to share more of this work in the coming months, and to celebrate the people, experiences and ideas that have contributed to CAPITAL’s story.
